What
is T'ai Chi?
T'ai Chi is an exercise developed in China to improve health and
increase internal energy through movement. Emphasis is focused on
natural movement, correct posture, extension, body control, centering
and fluidity. T'ai Chi is referred to as "meditation in motion".
By maintaining slow natural breathing, one massages the internal
organs and helps clear the mind. As a Martial Art, T'ai Chi thought
is, if you can perform a move almost perfectly when done slowly,
then the same move can be performed adequately at high speeds.
Sensei John Putman teaches a Yang Style of the 24 move Simplified T’ai Chi Quan emphasizing learning each move correctly before moving on to the next move.
As Students progress integration of practical application and push hands practice are also offered, but not required.
Each class begins with a 10 to 15 minute warm-up and usually includes the practice of Qi Gong.
The class is open to drop-in students and is suitable for all levels.
T'ai Chi is a wonderful compliment to Aikido or any other practice of movement where students will benefit from
“fine-tuning” their body with correct posture and fluid natural movement.
